Southern California is a cacophony of lifestyles and individual styles. It’s a smaller reflection on the larger United States themes of immigrants’ food, art, music, performing arts, and other cultural customs and traditions. Every one is celebrating something and that is visible everywhere on the streets. Artwork and fashion reflect individual heritage from the old world, mixed together with new American habits and values. Martin Elkort’s misc new photos, black and white photographs shot between 2000 and 2006 around Southern California, reflect this heterogeneous mixing of style from around the world, that continually reflects on the growing and changing shape of the state’s cultural identity.
